Music Video Analysis
Chandelier -Sia I chose the very popular Chandelier song by Sia which has a very surprising, unique video to go along with the song. This video definitely hooks you from the beginning and makes you continue to watch it because you wonder what the little girl is going to do next. The vibe of this video is very creepy and haunted and really has nothing to do with the lyrics of the song and is much more artistic and interpretive. This young girl in this video is dancing around in an old, dirty looking apartment and kind of represents a psychotic little girl. This entire video seems to look as though it is filmed in one shot but is broken into a few cuts. The unique thing about this video is how the camera pans around never leaving the apartment following the girl dancing throughout it. I like how they use some strange angles while filming her and also how they don't always perfectly line her up in the shot (making you kind of move your head wondering where she is going next.) Not having perfect filming like this helps with the creepy feeling this music video gives, especially when they get closer to her face and give the viewer and intense feeling. I also noticed how they used lighting to compliment the song. The chorus was mostly filmed in the living room part of the apartment where there was much more light, the creepier slower parts of the song were filmed in darker corners and down dark hallways.
Great analysis. I love this video. It's important to note that the video continues past the song with the girl standing and breathing in the doorway until the focus goes soft.
